How hair dye works
Hair dyes are divided into 3 types depending on the duration of their stay
- Temporary tincture
- It is a color that is deposited on the outer wall of the hair.
- It does not penetrate into the hair and is therefore considered a safe type of hair dye .
- It lasts for a period of 2 to 4 hair washes depending on the type of dye or color used and the strength of its attachment and deposition on the hair wall
- Such as Revolution temporary dye-Alta Moda temporary dye-biorderm temporary dye
- Semi-permanent dye
- It is a color that is deposited on the outer wall of the hair with its permeability to the inside of the hair tube in a small amount.
- It is safe for hair as it does not include the use of oxygen water, ammonia or other substances that increase the permeability of the hair wall to the dye.
- It lasts for a period of 4 to 8 hair washes depending on the type of dye or color used and the strength of its attachment and deposition on the hair wall
- Such as Wella soft color dye-Manic Panic dye-Stargazer dye-crazy color dye
- Permanent dye
- It is a color that is inserted into the hair tube by using substances that increase the permeability of the hair wall.
- Its use requires increasing the permeability of the hair wall by means of ammonia, MEA or amino propanol.
- Ammonia is considered the strongest substance, which increases the permeability of the hair wall to the dye strongly, and therefore dyes containing ammonia are considered stronger, stable and the color permeates the entire length of the hair.
- Some permanent dyes contain organic oils such as argan or other oils instead of ammonia, but not as strong as the effect of ammonia in inserting the dye into the hair tube, and this is reflected in the color fastness and the percentage of color coverage of the entire hair.
- Such as Garnier – L'oreal – lacme – coliston dye
It is preferable to use temporary dyes over semi-permanent or permanent dyes to preserve the health of the hair.
Pulling hair color
- Oxygen water is used to pull the color, which is a process of dissolving the melanin pigment inside the hair through the oxidation process of the melanin pigment, and this method is used to obtain light colors, especially if the hair color is dark.
- Oxygen water is used in concentrations from 3% to 12% depending on the degree of lightening required for hair color.
Substances harmful to hair when using dyes
- Ammonia or its substitutes, which are used to introduce color into the hair and are found in permanent dyes.
- Oxygen water, because it not only oxidizes melanin, but also affects other types of hair protein.
Therefore, it is preferable to use temporary dyes, the use of which does not include oxygen water to withdraw the color or increase the permeability of the hair wall to insert the color inside the hair tube.
Care for dyed hair
- It is preferable to use a shampoo intended for dyed hair for a gentle cleansing of the hair.
- It is preferable to wash hair only twice a week.
